Gravity

Hard to pick a title for the week that was. Quite serious really. Other's experiences are far graver than mine especially for poor Nepal and those affected by floods etc in NSW.

Anyway, mine was marred by flooding caused by incredible rainfall and then by a small landslide next to my house. And THEN by lowlife thieves that stole wallets and other items from us  while we were staying at my father in law's property whilst waiting to move back to our home.

Living in our part of the countryside seemed so safe and idyllic..
There's my husband in the distance wading along our driveway
Very upsetting how close the landslide was to the house.
Only damage is to our clothesline...and to my peace of mind

That has pretty much taken up most of my week. I did manage to get out and about and spend time at the Hawkesbury Show. I was blessed with a first prize in printmaking for "Boy" and a commended for an abstract painting.

And I did manage to finish a painting

My Feet Hurt

Just had a busy but enjoyable weekend teaching a class at Little River Art Studios. A lovely venue set in the rolling green of Grose Wold and the participants delighted me with their colourful creations. I hope I managed to burn off some the calories incurred from the morning teas.

Little River Art Studios
Although I missed the opening of Drummoyne Art Society show, it was lovely to hear of a Highly Commended going to my linocut entry "Boy".

at Ferry Artists Gallery

The Ferry Artist's Gallery at Wisemans Ferry opened a new exhibition with the "Secret River" as its inspiration. Here is a picture of myself with fellow artist Ulla Abildgaard - one of my paintings "Landscape on Linen" is in the background.

Works by Lara Cross
Breathing Colours gallery also opened an exhibition that day. I attended and caught up with fellow artists and guests. I succumbed to temptation and came home with some eyewateringly bright jewelry by Lara Cross of Glory Box Designs

Melamine Plate, Gabby Malpas

For something different, I managed to go the the Collectors Plant Fair. I purchased a bromeliad to replace the one our dog chewed up the previous year. And also managed to catch up with artist Gabby Malpas who creates beautiful watercolours and has them available as wonderful homewares.

Hopefully the coming week may be a little quieter. I really need to spend more time in the studio. Paintings dont paint themselves!

The Hawkesbury Show is coming up. If the huge Sydney Agricultural Show was too much for you, then this one is the perfect size for a family day out. And there are some pretty good paintings in the arts pavillion :)

Be blessed!

Exhibitions, Demonstrations and a Musical

Been a busy bee this last couple of weeks. I think I need another holiday!

Checking out the paintings

Exhibition Opening

The Arts Preview at The Sydney Royal Easter Show was as usual a great night out. How lovely to recieve a Highly Commended for a Still Life and then sell one of my paintings the next day. You will still be able to see the wonderful array of arts and crafts at the Show until next week.

Demonstration

Met up with the lovely students and Elaine at Fun Time Art, Baulkham Hills. I am looking forward to finishing the two pieces I worked on.

Les Miserables opened last week at the Capitol Theatre. I did see the show years ago and again last year in Melbourne. But I very much enjoyed this production. I laughed, I cried, I was on the edge of my seat for the emotional bits. Well done to all involved. One of the highlights was discovering the paintings of Victor Hugo
being the inspiration for the set design.

Exhibiton #2
"The History Keepers" set up and opened at Sassafras Creek, Kurrajong. A great array of paintings, prints, woodwork, & textile art from the members of Hawkesbury Artists & Artisans Trail. I recommend a visit, and you can have a very nice meal there too.

All Day Demonstration

Wen t back to the Easter Show on Monday and hung out at the Derivan Matisse stand with artist Phillipa Thomas who was demonstrating the dry mediums. I started a couple of large works, hope to work more on them when I am back next week.
